Short answer: NDIS price limits are the maximum a provider can charge for a support when your funding is NDIA-managed or plan-managed — whether or not the provider is registered. They don't apply to self-managed funding. For 2026-27, standard weekday daytime help with self-care has a national price limit of $73.58 an hour, and most therapy supports sit between $161.99 and $252.99 an hour.

Key points

  • Price limits are a maximum, not a fixed price — you can pay less.
  • They apply to NDIA-managed and plan-managed funding, registered or not.
  • Self-managed funding isn't covered by price limits.
  • Since 24 September 2026, the Minister sets price limits under a new Pricing Determination.

Who sets the price limits?

Until 2026, the NDIA set price limits in its Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits. Under laws passed in August 2026, the Minister now sets them through the NDIS Pricing Determination 2026, which took effect on 24 September 2026. The NDIS says these limits align with its earlier 2026-27 pricing guidance, so the figures below still apply. It has also said the 2026-27 pricing schedule will be updated later this year to reflect any required changes.

How to check a quote

  1. Find the support item. Ask the provider which NDIS support item number they'll claim.
  2. Check the time of day. Weekend and evening rates are higher; make sure the quote matches when you'll actually get support.
  3. Ask about extras. Travel time, kilometres, report writing and non-face-to-face time can be claimed in some cases — ask for these to be listed separately.
  4. Check cancellations. Your service agreement should say how much notice you need to give and what you'll be charged if you cancel late.
  5. Compare. Ask two or three providers. The price limit is a ceiling, not a target.

If a provider charges more than the price limit for NDIA-managed or plan-managed funding, your plan manager shouldn't pay it, and you can raise it with the provider or the NDIA.

Self-managed? Price limits don't apply

If you self-manage, you can agree on a price above or below the limit. That gives you flexibility — for example, to pay more for a hard-to-find specialist — but you still need to show your spending is value for money and fits within your budget.

What's coming

  • Differentiated pricing: the NDIS has recommended that from 1 January 2027, unregistered providers of some social, community and civic participation supports have price limits about 10% lower than registered providers. This is still subject to consultation.
  • Award changes: changes to the SCHADS Award take effect from 1 December 2026 after a Fair Work Commission decision. The NDIS expects to update the pricing schedule later this year, so check for new figures before agreeing to prices for 2027.
